Real-Estate Broker

Vanessa Echols
Sandra Jeter, 46 Salary range: about $200,000

"A bad experience building my own home motivated me to become a licensed real-estate broker of luxury homes for actors, athletes and other celebrities. After the builder left me and my husband with tens of thousands of dollars in bills, I decided that I didn't want anyone else to go through that nightmare at what should be an exciting time of life. So I enrolled in a real-estate course, passed the state exam and go, my license. I'm a broker and salesperson and run my business independently. I'm affiliated with Prudential Florida Real Estate Center in Orlando.
"Wesley Snipes was my first celebrity client, thanks to his mother. My sister's fiance and Wesley attended high school together here in Orlando. He knew Wesley was interested in buying his mother a home here, so he told her about me. We found her a home, then Wesley's mother informed me I would be her son's realtor as well. After I closed that deal, I started getting calls from agents and celebrities who heard I was Wesley's realtor. Many celebrities find central Florida attractive--good weather, low cost of living, no state income tax. Now my list of clients includes model-actress Tyra Banks, athletes Anfernee `Penny' Hardaway of the Phoenix Suns, Antawn Jamison of the Golden State Warriors, Robert Porcher of the Detroit Lions, Leon Searcy of the Jacksonville Jaguars, basketball legend Julius Erving and Shaquille O'Neal's mother, Lucille Harrison.
"I love interacting with people and being part of their most personal investment. Faith in God guides my relationships. Romans 8:28 says, `All things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.' So I deal with everyone with integrity. My reputation is worth more than money!"
Sexual harassment continues to plague the workplace at an alarming rate, say Wanda Dobrich, Ph.D., and Steven Dranoff, Ph.D., authors of The First Line of Defense: A Guide to Protecting Yourself Against Sexual Harassment (John Wiley & Sons, Inc.). They offer solutions for bridging the gap between workers' confused reactions to sexual harassment and corporate policies and procedures.
